Do not give Greenies to dogs that have a history of digestive problems or an allergy to corn, wheat, or soy. These types of treats also contain phenylalanine so they are not suggested for dogs with phenylketonuria.

How Much Greenies Dog Treats Should I Give My Dog?

The Greenies brand offers a wide array of dental chews for dogs of all sizes and ages. Each bag is clearly marked with a recommended serving size for that product, based on the average weight of the breed of the dog for which it is intended. It’s best to follow the recommended serving size, as you don’t want to overfeed your pet to the point of obesity or digestive issues.

If the bag is all gone or if you want to offer your pet a special treat, you can also offer the chews as a snack without the teeth brushing benefits. However, just be sure to feed the appropriate size treat to the appropriate sized pet. For example, a large dog should not be fed a treat meant for a toy breed.

If feeding the treats in place of a meal, again, make sure to follow the recommended serving size for your pet’s ideal body weight.

Like any treat, Greenies can be dangerous if your dog eats too many. Make sure to follow recommended serving sizes so you don’t end up with a sick pup.

How Greenies Dog Treats Can Help Clean Your Dog’s Teeth

Greenies helps fight plaque and freshens breath with a delicious treat, with the added benefit of being healthy. The goodness inside every Greenies treat supports your dog’s dental health. The combination of chewy texture and natural ingredient blend make these snacks highly digestible, so you can feed your dog Greenies treats as often as once a day.

The main ingredient in Greenies treats is highly soluble vegetable protein, so they’re safe and easy to digest. Greenies also contain chicory, a natural ingredient that promotes digestive health; antioxidants that help support a healthy immune system, and essential vitamins and minerals that are necessary to maintain his overall health and well-being.

With their irresistible taste and natural ingredients, Greenies chewable treats were developed to promote oral health and overall wellness in dogs of all shapes and sizes. It’s the perfect combination of delicious taste and exceptional dental health: one daily Greenies treat helps to fight plaque and tartar build-up, freshen breath and maintain healthier teeth and gums.

It’s still important to take your dog to the vet for regular check-ups and cleanings. With his daily Greenies, you’ll have something to smile about every time you both visit the vet.

Are Greenies Bad for Your Dog’s Teeth?

Greenies® Dental Treats have been around for a long time, but recently, there’s been some controversy about whether they’re safe for dogs. You’ve likely seen the commercials where owners are encouraged to give their dogs Greenies® to clean their teeth. But they may not be as safe as they appear.

The problem is the ingredients in Greenies. While they may be good for dogs, there’s a chance that they could be dangerous to your dog’s health.

The Greenies company has not been forthright about what their product is made of. There’s no clear list of ingredients on the Greenies website. In fact, the company doesn’t list the ingredients for multiple products on its website.

The only information readily available is what’s printed on the product packaging, which doesn’t include the chemical makeup of the ingredients.

Some of the ingredients you’ll see listed on the packaging are:
1. water
2. dextrose
3. corn starch
4. powdered cellulose
5. glycerin
6. lecithin
7. poultry digest
8. beet pulp
9. sorbitol
10. sodium polyphosphate
11. salt
12. calcium phosphate
13. artificial colors
14. natural flavor
15. preservatives
16. minerals
17. vitamins
18. bile acid
19. tapioca starch
20. yeast
21. lactic acid
22. minerals
23. gum arabic
24. HCl acid

What’s wrong with all those ingredients? Most of them are fillers – ingredients that don’t add any nutritional value to your dog. For example, beet pulp is a by-product from sugar production. It can cause allergic reactions in some dogs and is not readily absorbed by the body. Salt is used to make the product taste better, but it’s not necessary for your dog.

The ingredients that make Greenies® safe for your dog are all listed in the ingredient list. The only ingredient that raised red flags for me is “gum arabic.” Gum arabic is a natural gum that’s derived from acacia trees. It’s been used in food products for centuries. It’s also used in cosmetics and as a thickener and emulsifier in personal care products.

Gum arabic is often used in pet food because it can be a low-cost way to add fiber. It’s usually safe for dogs when it’s used in small amounts.

The only other ingredient that’s listed is the preservative ethoxyquin. It’s a common preservative that’s also used in many pet foods. The problem with ethoxyquin is that it’s a possible carcinogen.

Greenies are not a good choice for dogs with allergies. They contain wheat, corn, soy, and milk.

I recommend that you avoid these products. Instead, look for treats made with high-quality ingredients.

Can Greenies Dog Treats Cause Diarrhea?

When it comes to dog treats, some can be a little too hard on your dog’s digestive system. While Greenies aren’t the hardest dog treats out there, they can definitely cause problems for dogs that eat them. Greenies are primarily made of a doughy material that coats all of your dog’s teeth to help clean off any plaque and tartar buildup.

While that’s great for your dog’s teeth, there is a possibility that the dog may not be able to digest the treat. Greenies can cause some dogs to experience an upset stomach, vomiting, decreased appetite, and diarrhea. It’s not common, but it does happen. In some dogs, Greenies may also cause allergic reactions.

Greenies are primarily used as a dental chew, and they’re great for that. If your dog doesn’t have an issue with a Greenies dog treats, then they’re great for it. If your dog does have an issue with Greenies, then you’ll need to know what you should do if your dog gets diarrhea after eating Greenies.
